Rumi Flowers, located at the base of Longonot Mountain at an altitude of 2,000 meters in Naivasha, Kenya, is a new venture dedicated to growing and exporting premium roses. A dream at 21, the company was founded by Akshat Shah, a young and passionate entrepreneur from India. The company was born from his deep love for roses and a desire to learn by doing rather than through formal education.
At just 23 now, after a challenging two-year journey and with guidance from his father, experienced partners, support from his family, and technical expertise from Mr Efraim Yossef, Akshat personally designed and built the entire farm's infrastructure. He taught himself engineering software and applied his natural engineering skills to create innovative solutions, making Rumi Flowers a new case study model for aspiring entrepreneurs.
Key highlights of Rumi Flowers include:
- Sustainability and Environmental Responsibility: The farm features one of the largest wetlands in Naivasha and uses above-ground concrete tanks for irrigation, conserving electricity and resources.
- Innovation and Self-Reliance: Akshat designed and installed the greenhouses, irrigation systems, and packhouse, ensuring quality and efficiency without third-party involvement.
- First in Kenya: The farm is the only one in Kenya to use 100% HDPE irrigation systems, setting a new standard in floriculture. It is also the only fully integrated EPC farm in Kenya.
- Social Responsibility: We deeply understand our responsibilities towards the less privileged in society. We strongly believe in fulfilling basic needs like food, education, and health, while maintaining a good working environment.
